Delaware Courts Launch Phased Reopening

06.02.2020

Delaware officials have crafted a phased reopening plan to resume court operations as soon as possible. Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice Collins J. Seitz announced the plan to the public, sliced into four phases.

Phase one, which may be launching the week of June 8, will be a “soft reopening”, letting lawyers and a small number of people who deal with the courts return to their respective buildings. Phase two will open the court facility doors to the public with safety limitations and precautions set in place during Phase one. Phase three will augment the amount of individuals let into public areas and courtrooms adjacent to courtrooms, as well as letting criminal and civil jury trials resume. Phase four will “make a return to full operations, though under a ‘new normal’ that may encompass preserving specific safety guidelines and using more technology as created and/or utilized during the pandemic.
