Missouri Historical Society Data Compromised During Cyber-Breach

08.10.2020

The Missouri Historical Society, or MHS, recently notified their donors that personal information like dates of birth, names, and addresses was possibly compromised during a severe data breach. Transpiring in May of this year, the breach impacted numerous nonprofit organizations—MHS being one of them. Fortunately, personal financial information was spared as it was encrypted.

However, cyber-hackers were able to swipe a copy of a subset of data from their cyber environment before being booted from the network entirely. Thankfully, the cybercriminals were not able to completely deploy ransomware and lock up or encrypt its technology systems. After conducting a deep search throughout the information that was accessed, the establishment concluded that there was no evidence of stolen information still being used.
