Utah Provides COVID-19 Relief for Businesses

06.19.2020

Utah lawmakers decided to widen access to roughly $122 million in federal coronavirus relief for business owners, residents, and cultural groups throughout the state. Rules were eased for spending up to $20 million in previously approved housing aid and $40 million in grants for rental assistance for commercial tenancies to help recipients obtain cash sooner.

A $62 million grant program was also passed to help struggling establishments as well as artistic, cultural and recreation groups that encourage travel throughout Utah. This is all money sent to each state by Congress through the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, passed March 27 to stem health and economic destruction from the pandemic

“This is a great first step to give them that boost,” Rep. Richard Spendlove, R-Salt Lake City, declared Thursday of individuals who qualified for the $62 million in financial recovery and cultural assistance and grants approved under HB5010.
