Green Manufacturing Slated to Begin in Hazelton, PA

03.13.2021

Green construction company Nexii’s renovated manufacturing facility is set to open this spring in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. The goal: producing over 8 million square feet of building panels every year.

Escalating Customer Demand

Canadian based company, Nexii invested over $20 million to renovate a facility in Hazelton, Pennsylvania—Nexii’s first operation in the U.S. Forbes reports that Nexii will be supplying a major hotel chain,  several food and beverage retailers and prominent high-rise developers with it’s a proprietary concrete alternative for new construction. As Stephen Sidwell, CEO of Nexii says:

The demand for sustainable and affordable buildings in the Northeastern U.S. market is greater than ever. From constructing new residential and commercial buildings that meet and exceed new sustainability and energy efficiency standards to retrofitting existing structures to improve durability and lower operating costs, Nexii is affordably reducing the climate impacts of buildings.

Innovation In Action

Nexii’s leaders describe its product and approach as a “completely different methodology of construction.” Construction Dive explains:

An alternative to cement and concrete, the company’s roof, floor and wall panels create a thermally efficient, airtight envelope…. The insulated panels are coated on both sides with a material the company calls Nexiite, which is made of sand and other “readily-available” materials….

Forbes notes that Nexii’s internal studies demonstrate that walls made from Nexiite have about 30% less embodied carbon than concrete walls and 43% less carbon than a steel stud wall:

Nexii’s product, Nexiite, is a proprietary material that allows for the rapid construction of sustainable buildings. The material is meant to replace concrete, which has a high carbon footprint. The company says Nexiite, coupled with a design and assembly process, allows for buildings that are cost-efficient, durable and even disaster-resistant.
